Validity, sending and the IELTS comparison
Undergraduates email score reports to intladm@colorado.edu. Reports must be verifiable and show your name, date of birth, verification details and test date, and the exam must fall within two calendar years of your CU Boulder start date. Scores must be on file by the regular decision deadline if you want first-year scholarship consideration.
Graduate applicants upload or email a verifiable Duolingo report showing their name, secure certificate link and test date, and the result must be shared. If CU Boulder cannot verify it, the page says to send it from the Duolingo dashboard to "University of Colorado Boulder – Graduate". Duolingo results are valid for two years. Neither page sets Duolingo subscores or mentions teaching assistantships.
For comparison, the same pages set IELTS at 6.5 for undergraduates and for the default graduate tier, rising to 7.0 for the 125 programmes and 7.5 for the 135 programmes.

If your Duolingo score falls short
CU Boulder offers undergraduates conditional admission if they meet the academic requirements but need to improve their English. You apply without English scores and register for the Pathway to CU Program, then start your degree once you meet the English requirement. Admitted undergraduates without scores must send proof of English or enrol in Pathway to CU before confirming their place. The graduate page lists no conditional route.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your CU Boulder programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
