What IELTS score do you need for Dartmouth College?

If your first language is not English and your curriculum has not been taught in English for at least two years, Dartmouth requires TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or Cambridge English. It also accepts the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and IELTS Indicator, but not TOEFL MyBest scores or TOEFL Essentials. There are no minimum scores, but most successful applicants score above 7 on IELTS, 135 on Duolingo or 185 on Cambridge, and above 100 on TOEFL (5 or above on the new scale). The Guarini School accepts TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo for all graduate programs and recommends TOEFL 100, IELTS 7 or Duolingo 135. Self-reported scores are fine for the application; official results are needed once admitted, and expired scores are not considered. Non-US citizens are exempt if they have, or are earning, a degree from a US institution or from a non-US institution where English was the sole primary language of instruction. Dartmouth Engineering (Thayer) recommends TOEFL 5 with no section below 5 (100 on the old scale), IELTS 7.0 or Duolingo 135 for the Master of Engineering Management. It exempts degrees from the US or Canada and citizens of listed countries such as the UK, Ireland, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Nigeria and Kenya; India is not on that list.
