What Duolingo score do you need for Duke University?

For graduate applicants, Duolingo has no institution code. Select "Duke University Graduate Programs: Graduate School; Divinity; Engineering; Environment; Public Policy; Duke Kunshan" at the Graduate programme type level, and include subscores: reports without subscores are not accepted. Your score must be dated no more than two years before 1 August of the application year, so Fall 2027 applicants need a report dated 1 August 2024 or later.

All admitted international graduate students whose first language is not English take English Language Support Program placement exams on arrival, even if the test requirement was waived. Undergraduate admissions uses your highest score if you test more than once and has no preference among tests.

Neither page offers conditional admission or a pathway tied to a Duolingo score. The graduate waiver applies only if you studied full time for two or more years at a college where English was the sole language of instruction, in a country where English is the primary spoken language.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Duke programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
