What IELTS score do you need for Freie Universität Berlin?

The M.Sc. Economic Systems asks C1 and repeats the central list: IELTS 7.0, TOEFL iBT or Special Home Edition 95, PTE Academic 76, Cambridge 180. The M.A. North American Studies asks more: IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 100 (5 on the new scale), with test certificates no older than three years. The M.Sc. Chemistry, taught in German and English, accepts IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 instead of German.

At C1, FU Berlin's central table accepts a university degree with English as the language of instruction, shown on the certificate or diploma supplement or in a certificate from the university. It names no country restriction. North American Studies is stricter: a degree from a non-English-speaking country counts only if C1 was required at admission and the institution confirms it officially.

With a foreign degree, you first get a preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist, then apply through FU Berlin's own portal. The Economic Systems page says FU Berlin became a VPD university from the summer term 2026.
