Test rules and the IELTS comparison
Mason will not accept exam scores older than two years. The page gives a TOEFL code (5827) but no PTE sending instructions, and it does not mention PTE Academic Online or PTE Core.
On the same table, IELTS needs 6.5 with 6.0 in each subsection for undergraduates and 7.0 with 6.5 in each subsection for graduate study. The College of Engineering and Computing has its own lower IELTS and TOEFL rule (IELTS 6.5 with no subsection minimum), but that note does not mention PTE.

If you fall short
Mason's own George Mason Academic English course also counts, at level 6 for undergraduates and level 7 for graduate study, though the page says those levels may not be offered every semester. Gateway provides English instruction and assessment. Applicants with a degree from the US or a listed waiver-eligible country can have the test waived.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your George Mason programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
