What TOEFL score do you need for Governors State University?

The page asks for a TOEFL, IELTS or PTE score only if your previous degree was from an institution where English is not the foundational language, and refers to the equipment and environment requirements for taking the TOEFL iBT at home. It does not list a validity period, a MyBest policy or an institution code.

For comparison, the page sets IELTS at 6.0 overall for all degree levels.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

Applicants can instead complete the 112 level at an ELS Education Services Language Center. GovState also runs an Intensive ESL Program covering listening, speaking, reading, writing and TOEFL preparation, with courses starting in fall, spring or summer.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your GovState programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
