Can you claim compensation if the centre cancels your IELTS test?

For IELTS for UKVI, possibly. Its policy says that if a centre cancels for reasons within its control, you can apply for compensation for travel and accommodation, on top of a refund or transfer. Costs must be receipted, non-recoverable and reasonably priced. ielts.org's general policy for other IELTS tests offers a refund or new date but does not mention compensation.

Other IELTS tests

ielts.org's global policy says that if your test is cancelled for reasons outside the centre's control, you choose a full refund or a transfer; for technical failure, venue or environmental factors you also get a choice of refund or transfer (ielts.org). It does not mention compensation for expenses. It does say that local consumer protection law applies where it gives you better rights. See what happens if the centre cancels your test.

How to claim

Keep every receipt, ask your airline or hotel for a refund first and keep their refusal, then write to the test centre with the evidence. The UKVI policy makes the centre responsible for decisions on compensation, including eligibility and amounts (ielts.org). Detailed rules are set locally and can differ by country and test centre, so check your booking confirmation or ask your centre if anything here does not match what you were told.
