How much is the IELTS exam fee in Romania in 2026?

The two fees are in different currencies, so the cheaper option depends on the euro-leu rate on the day you pay. IDP's euro fee is fixed; if you pay with a lei card, your bank converts it.

Choice of city also matters. The British Council's booking system listed Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Iași and Timișoara. IDP had sessions in Bucharest, Brașov, Timișoara and Arad (IELTS test centres in Romania). Both providers offer One Skill Retake after a computer test.

The British Council's Romanian policy uses the rules in the table. Because the booking is made online in the EU, the British Council also gives a 14-day cooling-off period: cancel within 14 days of the payment confirmation and you get the full fee back. If illness or an emergency stops you on the day, you can apply for special consideration before the test or up to two calendar days after it; if approved you get a transfer or a refund, sometimes minus an admin fee. IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills follow a separate policy. UKVI rules are in its UKVI policy.

IDP's Romanian reschedule and cancel page has matching timings: free transfer 15 or more days before, up to 25% between 5 and 14 days, a 75% refund on cancellation 15 or more days ahead and nothing after. IDP adds that with a medical certificate sent within 5 days of the test you get a refund minus the local administrative cost, and a no-show without notice loses the whole fee. PTE Academic costs USD 260 in Romania (PTE fee in Romania).
