When you do not need a test
You do not need a test if you are applying from, and completed your social work qualification in, a country on the Council's citizenship list; if you completed a UK social work qualification it recognises; if your qualification was taught in English, awarded in the past five years and completed in a country where English is the first and native language; or if you have been registered and practising in English as a social worker for at least one year in the last five in such a country, where an English assessment was needed for registration, confirmed by your employer.

Validity and verification
All language certificates must have been achieved within five years of the date you submit your application. For IELTS, give your Test Report Form number (bottom right of the form) so the Council can verify it online; for CAE, give your candidate ID and secret number.
The internationally qualified social workers page has the general guidance notes; incomplete applications cannot be assessed. Regulators change these rules, sometimes at short notice. Confirm the current scores on the NISCC page before you book a test.
