Test rules and how to send PTE to Illinois State
The international page says scores must be dated within two years of application. PDF copies can be used to evaluate your application, and if admitted you must have official scores sent electronically from the testing agency. It does not mention PTE Academic Online, and its teaching assistant criteria do not list PTE.
For comparison, the international page asks IELTS 6.5 against PTEA 55, and the English MA asks IELTS 7.5 against PTEA 71.

If your PTE score falls short
The international page says Pathway and Academic English programmes are available for students who need extra support with English, but gives no PTE entry score for them. Waivers are assessed under Illinois State's English Waiver Guidelines.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Illinois State programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
