UIC PTE Academic minimums

UIC is one of the few US universities that publishes PTE skill minimums. The undergraduate international requirements page and the Graduate College catalog give the same table, and the bioengineering graduate page repeats it word for word.

Test rules and how to send PTE to UIC

The undergraduate page says PTE Academic scores must be reported to UIC directly from Pearson, selecting University of Illinois Chicago from the institution menu, and that scores can take up to two weeks to show as received. Scores are valid for two years from the test date and must be valid when you apply. The catalog adds that Pearson does not use an institutional code and describes the subscores as internet-based. Neither page mentions PTE Academic Online or combining sittings.

For comparison, the same pages ask IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each band at graduate level, against PTE 54.

If your PTE score falls short

The catalog says some graduate programmes will consider scores no lower than PTE 47 with required supplemental coursework, and some will defer admission so you can take the Intensive English Program first. At undergraduate level, applications below the minimums are not automatically denied, and UIC accepts an assessment from its Tutorium in Intensive English (TIE) in place of a test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UIC programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
