Which PTE versions Imperial accepts

The page lists PTE Academic as 'Test-Centre/UKVI SELT'. PTE Academic Online results were only accepted for courses starting up to 31 December 2023, so an online result will not count for current entry. Scores are valid only if taken within two years of your intended course start date. You only need to meet the level in one accepted test.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS at 6.5 overall (6.0 in all elements) for the standard level and 7.0 (6.5) for the higher level, so PTE 62 sits alongside IELTS 6.5 and PTE 69 alongside IELTS 7.0. Imperial does not accept the IELTS One Skill Retake, but it does take IELTS Online. For the Student visa itself, gov.uk asks for English equivalent to CEFR B2 at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself.

If your PTE score falls short

Postgraduate applicants can meet the requirement by passing the Imperial College London Pre-Sessional English Programme. The Business School no longer runs or recognises pre-sessional courses as a way to meet its requirement. You do not need the test before you apply: Imperial will add it to your offer conditions.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Imperial programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
