For the 5.5 programmes the same document also lists TOEFL iBT 46 (3.5 on the new scale), Cambridge English Advanced or Proficiency at 162 and Linguaskill 160. The Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy lines list Cambridge English Advanced or Proficiency at 176 and Linguaskill 180 instead of TOEFL.

IMU exempts students who completed a pre-university programme taught in English, for example A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate, Australian Matriculation, Canadian Matriculation or the IMU Foundation in Science. The exemption applies only to students who complete the entire degree at IMU in Malaysia.

IMU's credit-transfer model sends students to partner schools after their first years in Malaysia. For these routes the document says students must meet the prevailing IELTS requirement of the partner school before they transfer, and the IMU International Office advises the figure. Chiropractic, for example, lists different overall bands by partner, from 5.5 to 7.0.

The document also says all applicants must reach a level of competency in English before graduation. Postgraduate programmes set their own figures on separate pages and are not covered here.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your IMU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
