What IELTS score do you need for Monash University Malaysia?

Monash does not accept PTE Academic Online or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition for any course, and Monash English also excludes Cambridge Linguaskill General. TOEFL Essentials is accepted for degree entry at set scores but not for entry into Monash English.

A three-year limit runs from the date you completed the English measure to your course start date. Separately, the Malaysian Government sets its own minimum English requirement and a two-year time limit for each Monash degree; Monash tells you when you apply whether you meet it.

Monash's studying in English page accepts study at an institution where English is the language of instruction, communication and assessment for the whole institution, with an official letter signed by the registrar. For postgraduate entry that includes a completed bachelor's or master's equivalent to an Australian degree, finished within five years of the course start.

The one-semester (24 credit point) route is not open to international students, because of Malaysian Qualifications Agency and student visa rules. Every student must meet both Monash's and the Ministry of Higher Education's requirements, as the English requirements page notes.

If you are below the mark, the Monash English course runs for 10 or 20 weeks. The 20-week course takes IELTS 5.5 with no score below 5.0 (or PTE 42, no score below 36). Completing it meets Monash's requirement for most coursework degrees, but not Medicine, the Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Commerce, Clinical Psychology or Professional Counselling.

Monash notes the Malaysian Government generally sets postgraduate entry at IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 60, PTE Academic 59 or C1/C2 169, so you may need to sit a test after Monash English if the government level is higher.
