Jagiellonian English certificate minimums
From Jagiellonian's knowledge of language page for candidates without Polish citizenship, which follows the Polish science ministry's 2025 regulation on language documents. Programme pages in the IRK system can add requirements.
| Test | B2 minimum (all programmes) | Medicine and Dentistry in English |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS | 5.5 | 6.5 |
| TOEFL iBT | 72 | 87 |
| PTE Academic | 59 | Not listed |
| TOEIC | 785 Listening and Reading, 150 Speaking, 160 Writing | Not listed |
| Cambridge | B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency | Not listed |
A degree taught in English also counts
Besides tests, Jagiellonian's list accepts a bachelor's, master's or long-cycle master's diploma, from Poland or abroad, that states the language of instruction, or comes with a supplement or certificate that does. So an English-medium degree from India, Nepal or Pakistan should be able to confirm B2 English for a master's, if the language of instruction is documented; check your programme page in IRK for any extra rule.
The IB Diploma and European Baccalaureate count for their main language, and LanguageCert, Trinity, telc and LCCI certificates are listed at B2 level. Every certificate must cover listening, reading, speaking and writing, and a certificate does not exempt you from the admission interview. Duolingo is not on the list.

Medicine and Dentistry in English
For Medicine, Program in English, you need confirmation that your secondary school taught in English; otherwise, IELTS of at least 6.5 or TOEFL iBT of at least 87. The Dentistry admission criteria give the same two scores, with a school confirmation of English-medium secondary education as the alternative.
Applicants from Scandinavian countries can use the English grade on their school-leaving certificate instead, at minimum grades the programme lists by country.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Jagiellonian programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Jagiellonian University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
