How Kyoto iUP works, and Indian applicants

Kyoto iUP is a six-month preparatory course plus a four-year degree. Core subjects in the first two and a half years are taught in English and Japanese, and the final two years are mainly in Japanese, so students build Japanese during the programme. The 2027 application period is 2 November to 3 December 2026 (5 p.m. JST).

CBSE Class XII is an accepted standardised test for the academic requirement (predicted scores allowed; Class X is not), but it does not replace English proof. Form C needs all lectures, except language classes, to have been taught in English for at least five years of secondary school.

English-taught graduate courses

Kyoto's English-taught degree programmes page lists courses conducted entirely in English, including the International Environmental Management Program, the International Course in Management of Civil Infrastructure, the International Program in Intelligence Science and Technology and the International Energy Science Course, and sends you to each programme's page for details. It sets no university-wide IELTS score.

The International Energy Science Course master's admits 10 students a year in October. Applicants whose first language is not English must submit IELTS Academic or TOEFL, and IELTS 6.0+ or TOEFL iBT 80+ is recommended.

Kyoto University's English pages we read do not set a separate English score for the student visa or permit. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Kyoto University programme page and in your admission decision, so check it there before you book a test.
