University English requirements

What TOEFL score do you need for Kyungpook National University?

Kyungpook National University accepts TOEFL iBT 59 as one way for international freshman applicants to meet its language requirement, alongside IELTS Academic 5.5, CEFR B2 or New TEPS 202. Most applicants instead meet it in Korean with TOPIK level 3. Some departments set their own Korean level, and transfer applicants must show TOPIK, not TOEFL.

Test rules at Kyungpook

Applicants whose native language is English, from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia or Ireland, may substitute proof of completed higher education for a language score. KNU says certain departments require specific language levels and points to its admissions guide, announced in early March and early September.

On the same page, IELTS Academic needs 5.5.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. The page above gives only 0 to 120 figures, so that is what this guide reports.

If your TOEFL score falls short

Freshman applicants can meet the requirement in Korean instead: TOPIK level 3, level 3 of a university-affiliated Korean course, level 3 of the KIIP programme or 61 points on its preliminary evaluation, or an overseas Sejong Institute certificate at Intermediate 1 or above.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Kyungpook National University programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
