PTE rules at Lancaster

Lancaster accepts PTE Academic and PTE UKVI, both only when taken in person at a test centre; it does not accept the online version. Pearson certificates are valid for two years from the test date and must still be valid on your start date. Lancaster cannot combine scores from more than one sitting. The postgraduate page adds that if you take PTE, you must give Lancaster permission to verify your score.

Some Science, Mathematics, Medicine and Social Work courses set different levels on the course page's entry requirements tab. Against IELTS, the standard undergraduate level is IELTS 6.5 with 5.5 in each element, the same level as PTE 58 with 42.

If your PTE score falls short

Lancaster runs pre-sessional English programmes from 4 to 30 weeks. The postgraduate page lists their entry points in IELTS only and says other approved tests are accepted, but you need to contact Lancaster for the equivalent scores.

For the Student visa itself, gov.uk asks for English equivalent to CEFR B2 at degree level or above and B1 below degree level, and says a university can assess degree-level applicants' English itself. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Lancaster programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
