Sending scores, validity and the IELTS level

Admissions staff verify test scores, and an acceptable score must not be more than two years old on the day you start. Upload your results in MyLinc (or email them) and release your official results to Lincoln through the test provider's portal; the page links Pearson's scoring page for PTE. It does not mention PTE Academic Online, although it names IELTS Online as accepted.

Pearson's own PTE Core FAQ describes PTE Core as a general English test that is initially suitable only for work and migration routes to Canada, and says PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS Academic at 6.0 with no component below 5.5 for bachelor's study and 6.5 with no component below 6.0 for postgraduate study.

If your PTE score falls short

Lincoln says you can start with its English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme and progress directly into your degree once you reach the required level. Its own Lincoln University English Language (LU EL) result counts at 65% for undergraduate entry and 70% for postgraduate entry.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Lincoln programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
