Other ways to meet the requirement
Lone Star also accepts a diploma from an accredited US high school or a US college degree, a college-level writing course (not ESOL) from an accredited US college, completion of high school or higher education where English is the main language of instruction, or coming from a country where English is the official language.
With those routes, you take placement testing on arrival to decide whether you can start college-transfer courses. Students below the minimum scores take developmental English or ESOL.

Placement and campuses
Admitted students may be asked to test for the intensive English (ESOL) programme or developmental English on arrival. Recent ACT, SAT and other approved college test results may exempt you from all or part of the TSI test. Lone Star has campuses in CyFair, Houston North, Kingwood, Montgomery, North Harris, Tomball and University Park.

Minimum vs competitive score
Where Lone Star College publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
