What IELTS score do you need for Texas A&M University?

All international graduate students must meet Texas A&M's English Language Proficiency (ELP) standard. The accepted scores are TOEFL iBT 80 (in person or Home Edition) before 21 January 2026, TOEFL iBT 4.5 with 4.0 in each skill from that date, TOEFL Essentials 8.5, IELTS Academic 6.0, GRE Verbal Reasoning 146 or GMAT Verbal 77 (the last two subject to departmental approval). TOEFL and IELTS must be from a test date within two years. Texas A&M does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores, IELTS General Training or, for admission, the IELTS One Skill Retake.

You also meet the requirement with a bachelor's or master's degree completed entirely at an accredited US institution, or as a citizen of a listed English-speaking country such as Australia, Ghana, Ireland, Nigeria or the UK; India is not on that list. International freshman applicants show proficiency with TOEFL iBT 80 (before 21 January 2026) or 4.5 with 4.0 per skill (from that date), TOEFL Essentials 8.5, IELTS Academic 6.0, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 560, ACT English 21, or all four years of high school in the US. Test scores must be from within two years, and IELTS General is not accepted. Citizens of the same listed countries are exempt. Duolingo and PTE are not among the options Texas A&M lists.
