Courses with a higher English level
Loughborough's higher-level undergraduate page covers BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics, LLB Law, the BSc Psychology courses and the Sport Science courses. It lists the same test scores as the standard level, including IELTS 6.5 with 6.0, but asks for higher grades in school qualifications. Research degrees may also ask for more, and Loughborough says your offer states the level you need.

Loughborough's India page repeats the standard IELTS level. Its Pakistan page lists no school-English route, and routes for Pakistan and Nepal are not stated by Loughborough. Standard XII from the Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Telangana boards is not accepted, and these applicants need another English qualification.

Pre-sessional English and the Student visa
Loughborough's pre-sessional programmes are open only to offer holders. Programme C runs 11 weeks for £5,390 and Programme D 6 weeks for £2,940, on campus or online in summer 2026. Per its entry requirements, IELTS 6.5 with a lowest score of 5.5, or 6.0 with 5.5 in each, leads to Programme D; 6.0 with 5.0, or 5.5 overall, leads to Programme C. PTE 59 (57) is the floor for C and 61 (59) for D.
For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Loughborough programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
