What Duolingo score do you need for McMaster University?

IELTS, Duolingo and TOEFL results must be sent directly to McMaster electronically from the testing centre. Typically the test must be written within two years of starting at McMaster; for September 2027 entry, McMaster accepts a result as long as it is valid when you submit your application.

Graduate applicants are referred to the School of Graduate Studies website for language requirements, so this guide covers undergraduate entry only.

If you meet all academic requirements but are slightly below the English minimum, you may qualify for an offer conditional on completing STEP, an intensive seven-week academic English bridging programme before September. If your score is lower, an offer can be conditional on the MELD Diploma, an eight-month, two-term transition programme.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your McMaster programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
