MUL accepted certificates and scores
The application documents page for the 6-Year MD Program says English must be confirmed with a certificate from the university's list of accepted certificates (August 2025 edition). That list sets a B2 minimum and gives these scores.
| Test | Minimum score |
|---|---|
| IELTS | 5.5 points |
| TOEFL iBT | 72 |
| PTE Academic (in person and online) | 59 |
| TOEIC | 785 Listening and Reading, 150 Speaking, 160 Writing |
| Cambridge | B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, BEC Vantage, C1 Business Higher or CEIBT |
| Trinity | ISE II or higher; ISE Digital over 80 |
Who must submit a certificate
MUL's FAQ says that applicants who are not EU, EFTA, Swiss or UK citizens must confirm English with a certificate even if their education was conducted in English. US and Canadian citizens are covered by that rule, and a UK A-level does not replace a certificate for a non-UK citizen. A medium-of-instruction statement from your school is not accepted.
EU, EFTA, Swiss and UK citizens do not need a certificate if their secondary education followed IB, European Baccalaureate, OECD, EFTA, Chinese gaozhong or Ukrainian systems. The FAQ says the Duolingo English Test is not accepted, because only certificates on the list count.
Pearson has discontinued PTE Academic Online for new bookings, so plan on a test-centre PTE Academic sitting even where this page still lists the online version. See can you take PTE at home.

Entrance exam and the PREMED course
Candidates with IB, European Baccalaureate or Polish Matura documents may be exempted from the science section of the entrance exam, and PREMED graduates with a GPA of 4.0 or higher may skip the knowledge-checking part. These are exam waivers, not language waivers. The FAQ says PREMED is not required to apply and does not say it replaces the language certificate.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your MUL programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where the Medical University of Lodz publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
