Degree waivers and the Cert HE rule
You do not need a test if you are a national of a majority English-speaking country as defined by the Home Office, or hold a degree at UK bachelor's level taught in English in one of those countries. MetFilm may also consider an academic (not technical or professional) degree taught in English in another country, such as India or Nigeria, if it is equivalent to a UK bachelor's or above and recognised by ECCTIS, with evidence of the teaching language.
Certificate of Higher Education courses sit below degree level, so Student visa holders must take a SELT: IELTS for UKVI 6.0 with 5.5 in each band, LanguageCert Academic SELT at 60 in each section, or PTE Academic UKVI 59 in all four skills. MetFilm says it cannot accept any alternative qualifications for these courses.

Pre-sessional English, Berlin and how to check
MetFilm runs a pre-sessional English programme, and accepts INTO and Oxford International Digital Institute pre-sessional results at set scores. All MA courses, including those taught at MetFilm School Berlin, are validated by BIMM University and lead to a UK degree.
For Berlin, the postgraduate how to apply page says EU and EEA nationals need no English certificate, while other international students must sit IELTS or TOEFL or provide a letter confirming their bachelor's was taught only in English.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your MetFilm course page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where MetFilm School publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
