What IELTS score do you need for Miami University in Ohio?

Graduate applicants need IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 4.0 (80 before January 2026), TOEFL Essentials 9, PTE 54 or Duolingo 110, and some departments set a higher score. The Graduate School takes unofficial TOEFL, IELTS and PTE reports with the application, but Duolingo scores must come officially from Duolingo. The TOEFL institution code is 1463. On conditional admission Miami's pages disagree. The graduate application FAQ says Miami "does not offer conditional admission" to applicants who cannot show English proficiency, while the 2026-2027 graduate bulletin describes conditional admission to the ACE-G program for IELTS 5.5–6.0 (TOEFL 65–79, Duolingo 90–109) and to the ELC program below IELTS 5.5. Citizens of listed countries, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada (except Quebec), Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Singapore and South Africa, need no test, and nor do holders of a US bachelor's degree. If you studied in English in a country whose official language is not English, as in India, you must still submit scores.

For direct admission to a bachelor's program on the Oxford campus, Miami accepts IELTS or IELTS Online 6.5, TOEFL iBT (including Paper and Home Editions) 80 before January 2026 or 4.0 after, TOEFL Essentials 9, Duolingo 110, PTE Academic, PTE Academic Online or PTE Express 53, Oxford ELLT 7, SAT EBRW 550 or ACT English 21, among others.
