What IELTS score do you need for Nazarbayev University?

Only Academic IELTS is accepted. The policy states that IELTS Online and IELTS Indicator are not accepted, and neither is the TOEFL iBT Home Edition. Certificates count only if the test was taken in person at a testing centre.

A certificate is valid if it does not expire before 1 August of the academic year you apply for. You verify the result through the test administrator's system, and the last certificate you submit is the one considered, without superscoring. Students already in the Foundation Year are exempt from the IELTS and TOEFL requirement when they move into the undergraduate programme, and the policy sets no minimum English score for Olympiad winners.

The policy says applicants recommended for undergraduate admission with an IELTS certificate of exactly 6.0 overall must comply with certain conditions for study set out in the university's internal documents. It does not describe those conditions, so read your offer letter. A higher score avoids the question.

If you fall short of the undergraduate figure, the Foundation Year is the route the policy provides at a lower English minimum. Check which programmes your school and major accept and which dates apply for international applicants.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Nazarbayev University programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
