What TOEFL score do you need for Oklahoma State University?

Undergraduate scores must be from within the last two years, and graduate proof of English must come from an official exam completed within the last two years. Under state regents' policy, TOEFL results from institutional testing centres are accepted only by the institution that ran them.

Any new international teaching assistant who needed an English test for admission must reach the Speaking level above on the TOEFL iBT, or pass the ITA Exam, before teaching or lab instruction; all new ITAs also attend an orientation. Graduate students who only set up labs or grade are exempt.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. The undergraduate catalogue gives only the 0 to 120 figure, so that is the figure this guide reports.

For comparison, the Graduate College catalogue sets IELTS academic at 6.5, and the undergraduate catalogue sets IELTS at 5.5.

The undergraduate catalogue says that in extraordinary and deserving cases the President or a designee may admit a student who does not meet the test score, provided the student has shown English proficiency before admission. Graduate applicants with a degree from an English-medium institution in a country where English is a primary language can get a waiver. The catalogues do not describe a conditional pathway.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Oklahoma State programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
