Do provincial nominees need PTE Core?

Under an Express Entry stream, yes. IRCC says all PNP applicants nominated under an Express Entry stream must undergo language testing and list their scores in their Express Entry profile, and PTE Core is one of the approved tests. For base, non-Express Entry streams, whether a test is required depends on the province or territory. A nomination adds 600 CRS points.

What the nomination is worth

A provincial or territorial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score (CRS criteria). IRCC's instructions do not set a PNP-wide CLB minimum: they point officers to the equivalency charts, and stream minimums come from each province's own rules. Our Canada PNP guide lists them.

Need CLB 7+ for Express Entry?

Keeping the PTE Core result valid

For Express Entry, results must be less than two years old when you complete your profile and when you submit your PR application (language test page). Provincial processing can take time, so check that your PTE Core result will still be valid when IRCC receives your application.

IRCC changes programme rules and score tables from time to time. Check the linked canada.ca page before you book a test or apply. This guide is general information, not immigration advice.
