| 59–75 | B2 | Understand the main ideas of complex texts; talk with fluent speakers without strain; write clear, detailed text and argue a viewpoint |
| 43–58 | B1 | Understand the main points of clear standard English on familiar matters; write simple connected text; explain opinions and plans briefly |
| 30–42 | A2 | Understand frequent expressions on everyday topics; handle simple, routine exchanges |
| 10–29 | A1 | Use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases; interact simply if the other person speaks slowly |
How to read the bands
Your overall and four skill scores are all reported on the 10–90 Global Scale of English, so each one has its own CEFR level (Pearson). In the Score Guide chart, each level starts at the score where a test taker handles average to the most difficult tasks at that level. Dashed lines show that somewhat lower scores already predict success on the easiest tasks of the next level. So a 57 is B1, even if some B2 tasks are within reach.
Pearson notes that C1 is generally not required for undergraduate courses. For context, its typical university minimums are 51–60 for undergraduate and 57–67 for postgraduate degrees, which sit around the B1 to B2 boundary. Always check the actual requirement (PTE pass mark).

PTE Home A1, A2 and B1 are pass or fail.
