University English requirements

What TOEFL score do you need for Roosevelt University?

Roosevelt University sets TOEFL in three bands. A score of 80 or above means no English language course, 60 to 79 means you must take the 0-credit ELP-199 English Language and Academic Skills course, and below 60 is not eligible for admission. Scores must come directly from ETS before an application can be reviewed.

How Roosevelt handles TOEFL scores

The rule covers every student who completed their education outside the US. Test scores are required before an application can be reviewed and must be sent directly from ETS as official scores. The page gives no institution code, section minimums or validity period.

For comparison, the same page sets IELTS at 6.5 for no English course and 5.0 to 6.0 for admission with ELP-199.

TOEFL iBT score reports issued since January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score alongside the 0 to 120 total; see our guide to the new TOEFL score scale. Where a page above gives only a 0 to 120 figure, that is the figure this guide reports.

If your TOEFL score is below Roosevelt's level

A TOEFL score of 60 to 79 still leads to admission, with ELP-199 required. You can skip the test through academic experience: 30 transferable semester hours at an accredited US college including the equivalent of English 101 and 102 (undergraduate applicants only), or four consecutive years of high school or a completed degree in one of the listed English-speaking countries.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Roosevelt programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
