University English requirements

What PTE score do you need for the Singapore Institute of Management?

There is no single SIM PTE score, because each degree follows the rules of the overseas university that awards it. On SIM's programme pages, University at Buffalo degrees ask PTE Academic 50, RMIT's Bachelor of Business asks 58 with no skill below 50, Wollongong asks 54 to 62, and the University of Alberta commerce degree asks 61 with 60 in each band.

Test rules and the IELTS comparison

Validity is set per page. The University at Buffalo page accepts only scores from tests taken within two years before enrolment, and the RMIT page asks for a test no more than two years before the programme starts. The RMIT and both Wollongong pages say PTE Academic Online is not accepted. None of the pages mentions PTE Core or a Pearson institution code, so send your score through your Pearson account to the receiving university's SIM programme as your application instructions direct.

On the same pages, PTE 50 sits beside IELTS 6.0 for Buffalo, PTE 58 beside IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) for RMIT, PTE 54 beside IELTS 6.0 (no band below 6.0) for Wollongong cyber security and PTE 61 beside IELTS 6.5 (6.0 in each band) for Alberta.

If you fall short

Some SIM programmes list a pre-sessional English course developed and awarded by SIM; the Wollongong Master of Computing (Data Analytics) page) shows one, but that page gives only an IELTS figure (6.5, no band below 6.0) and no PTE score. Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents with ten years of English-medium schooling and a C6 or better in O-level English are exempt on the Buffalo page.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your SIM programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
