Placement test and exemptions
Bachelor's students who are not yet ready for an international programme are placed in the Stamford English Program before starting their degree. Master's applicants whose bachelor's degree was taught in English are exempt, and foundation courses may be required for those who do not pass required sections. Doctoral applicants on the bilingual track are exempt. Stamford's bachelor's admissions page also accepts Duolingo, without stating a score.

Documents
Stamford's document checklists call IELTS or TOEFL meriting but not required, because the placement test is available. Doctoral applicants also sit an entrance exam and interview, and master's and doctoral applicants need a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4.0.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Stamford programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Stamford International University (Thailand) publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
