Conditional entry and exemptions
Bachelor's applicants with no test or a lower score, who meet the programme's other requirements, may be accepted on condition that they take the Intensive English course. Doctoral applicants with a lower score may also study with conditions. Master's programmes follow their own curriculum rules, which must be at least the published criteria, and some curricula may not require a test. Native English speakers may be exempt. PTE and Duolingo are not named.

Programmes that need Thai
Laws, Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Public Health require competent Thai. MFU does not accept IGCSE as a secondary certificate, but it accepts GCE A Level, GED and NCEA.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your MFU programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Mae Fah Luang University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
