Test cities and format

IDP offers IELTS at 22 test centres in 13 cities: Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Ranong, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani and Ubon Ratchathani. The British Council tests at eight Bangkok venues (Siam Square, Silom Edge, Samyan Mitrtown, MBK Center, Emsphere, Ladprao, Pinklao, Bangkapi) and in Nonthaburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima and Phuket. Both say computer results typically arrive in one to two days. IDP requires a Thai ID card or, for non-Thai nationals, a passport.

Australia's Proficient English (IELTS 7.0 each) adds 10 points and Superior (8.0 each) adds 20, achieved within three years of the visa application. Canada accepts only IELTS General Training for Express Entry, and the result must be under two years old. UK universities usually ask 6.0 to 6.5 for undergraduate and 6.5 to 7.0 for postgraduate study.
