IELTS fees in Thailand by provider
Both providers charge the same for the main tests. Figures come from IDP's live Bangkok sessions, its IELTS for UKVI page and One Skill Retake page, and from the British Council's dates, fees and locations page and UKVI page. No separate tax line is shown, and IDP says there is no extra fee for a last-minute One Skill Retake booking.
Both IDP and the British Council say that from 22 March 2026 all IELTS tests in Thailand are delivered on computer, with results typically in one to two days (IDP). Some older IDP pages still mention weekly paper tests, and one still prices Life Skills at THB 6,970, so trust the booking screen. IELTS Online (from home) was not offered on either Thai site we read.
| Test | IDP | British Council |

Transfer, cancellation and refund rules
IDP's cancellation and transfer policy for IELTS Academic and General Training: a transfer is free 15 or more days ahead, costs THB 800 within 5 to 14 days, and is not allowed within 4 days. You can transfer only once, to a date within three months, and cannot cancel afterwards. Cancelling 15 or more days ahead returns 75%; within 14 days nothing comes back. Booked the wrong test or module? IDP rebooks you for THB 2,000 (THB 1,000 for a One Skill Retake).
IDP's UKVI terms are different: transfers cost THB 800 more than 14 days out and are refused after that, while refunds run 75% (more than 14 days out), 50% (within 14 days but more than 2) and 25% (within 2 days). For an emergency, IDP Thailand accepts a medical certificate from a hospital only, not a clinic, sent within 2 days of the test (5 for UKVI).
The British Council's policy for standard IELTS: free transfer 15 or more days ahead, a 25% fee within 5 to 14 days, no transfer under 5 days; cancelling 15 or more days ahead returns 75%, and nothing within 14 days. Refunds can take 4 to 6 weeks. If you booked with a promo code, a transfer means paying back the discount. See our IELTS cancel, reschedule and refund guide.

How to pay and book IELTS in Thailand
IDP takes payment online or by PromptPay from any Thai bank (IDP). The British Council takes payment in its online registration system, or you can register in person through its authorised partners (British Council). Book with a Thai national ID card or, for non-Thai nationals, a passport, and bring the same document on test day; a different or expired document means no test and no refund.
Under-18s need written parental consent at the British Council. Because every attempt costs THB 8,860, practise free before you pay the fee, and compare it with the PTE fee in Thailand.
