What TOEFL score do you need for Stony Brook University?

Undergraduates send an official TOEFL score report using code 2548. Stony Brook is test optional for admission, but international students are still expected to prove English with one of the listed exams unless they come from a native English-speaking country or attend an English-medium school.

The Graduate School considers English test results as part of review and says applicants whose scores are more than two years old must retake the test. The pages read today do not mention MyBest scores or the Home Edition.

Undergraduates who meet the academic criteria but not the English level may be considered for conditional admission to the University Preparation Program through the Intensive English Center. You study English plus one or two academic classes, depending on your test scores. After passing the highest Intensive English Center level with a C or above in each academic course, you can enrol in full-time studies.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Stony Brook programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
