Swansea's levels by test

From Swansea's approved tests page. For degree entry Swansea accepts IELTS Academic from any test centre, valid for two and a half years, as is PTE; IELTS Online and SWELT are valid for two years. A One Skill Retake must be within 60 days of the original test, and only one is accepted. Component minimums follow the same scale, so IELTS 5.5 matches PTE 59 and 6.0 matches 64.

Deposits, pre-sessional English and the Student visa

Swansea's CAS page asks self-funded international students for a £4,000 deposit. Its deposit FAQs set country exceptions: 50% of the first-year fee for Pakistan and Bangladesh (Bangladesh at least £4,000), the full first-year fee for Punjab, and £8,000 for Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Telangana. Haryana is listed with its amount left blank. A university pre-CAS interview is not stated.

Swansea's pre-sessional courses run 20 weeks (£7,900, from IELTS 4.5 with 4.0), 12 weeks (£4,740, from 5.0 with 4.5) or 10 weeks (£3,950, from 5.5 with 5.0), with a 6-week course also listed. For a joint CAS, students below 5.5 in any component must also provide a SELT.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Swansea programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
