Plymouth's standard levels by test

From Plymouth's English language requirements pages. Plymouth accepts IELTS Academic from non-UKVI centres for degree entry if taken no more than three years before your course starts; a UKVI IELTS must be within two years of your CAS. Your most recent test is the one assessed, even if an older one scored higher. Its PTE page lists 59 for both levels although postgraduate IELTS is higher, so confirm PTE with admissions.

Indian, Nigerian and other South Asian applicants

Plymouth's Indian School Certificate page sets a separate rule for applicants from Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana: a higher Class XII percentage, a Duolingo score as well, and a mandatory credibility interview. Its WAEC and NECO page accepts C6, but the Nigeria country page mentions only IELTS or a pre-sessional course, so confirm with admissions.

Plymouth's Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh pages ask for a recognised English qualification such as IELTS, or a Plymouth pre-sessional course. Whether Plymouth accepts medium of instruction letters is not stated.

Pre-sessional English, deposits and the Student visa

Plymouth's pre-sessional courses for summer 2026 ran on campus for 8 weeks (£3,080, from IELTS 5.0 for undergraduate or 5.5 for postgraduate entry) or 6 weeks (£2,310, from 5.5 or 6.0), and online for 11, 8, 6 or 2 weeks (£4,235 to £850). Dates for 2027 are not yet published. A pre-sessional on a Student visa needs a SELT from a UKVI-approved centre.

Plymouth's application page asks for a £3,500 tuition fee deposit, subject to change, before you can request a CAS. Its credibility interview page says you may be asked to attend one before receiving your CAS.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Plymouth programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
