Validity, TOEFL and other rules

Each profile page, such as Profile B2, says the tests are valid for two years before the programme starts. Exeter verifies every score with the issuing body. If you defer, it may ask you to retake a test that will be out of date at registration.

TOEFL iBT, the Home Edition, the Paper Edition and MyBest scores are all accepted. Under the new scale for tests from 21 January 2026, Profile B2 needs 4.5 with no section below 4. Profile G needs 5.5 with 5.0. LanguageCert Academic is accepted at a test centre or online.

The profile pages do not list IELTS for UKVI separately. Exeter's International Study Centre runs pre-sessional English courses if you need to raise your score. Exeter may change its minimums during a cycle if Home Office guidance changes, and says it will write to affected applicants.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Exeter programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
