What IELTS score do you need for Tampere University?

For master's programmes starting in 2027, you must take the test by the application deadline of 7 January 2027, and a test you already hold must be valid until at least that date. Bachelor's applicants in the joint application must test by 21 January 2027.

Send TOEFL scores to institutional code 9871, give your IELTS TRF number or PTE Score Report Code on the application form, and upload the certificate. Tampere does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake results. The bachelor's PTE writing minimum appears as 61 in one place on the page and 41 in another, so confirm it with admissions if your writing score falls between the two.

For master's, an English-taught higher education degree from a listed country exempts you. The list includes Finland and other EU/EEA countries, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. The institution must be located in that country (a satellite campus elsewhere does not count), though distance learning from a listed country does.

If the degree was taught in several languages, at least 50% of the courses must have been in English, and the language of instruction must appear on your degree certificate, transcript, diploma supplement or another official document. English-taught upper secondary school in the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK or the USA, 25 credits of English-taught study at Tampere in one semester, or set IB and EB English grades also count.

Tampere University's English pages we read do not set a separate English score for the student residence permit. Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Tampere University programme page and in your admission decision, so check it there before you book a test.
