How TCU handles TOEFL scores

The MLA admissions page says English test scores are valid for two years. At Neeley, the test can be waived if you earned a graduate degree in the US, worked in the US for at least two years, or earned an English-taught undergraduate degree in a country where English is an official language.

TOEFL iBT score reports from January 2026 also carry a 1 to 6 band score; our guide to the new TOEFL score scale explains how the two scales appear on a report.

For comparison, the transfer page asks for IELTS 6.5 and Neeley asks for IELTS 7.0.

If your TOEFL score is below TCU's level

None of these pages describes conditional admission or an English pathway for a low TOEFL score. For transfer students, the TOEFL can be waived with strong SAT or ACT scores or with at least 24 hours of transferable credit, including English composition, from a US college.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your TCU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
