Test rules and how PTE compares with IELTS
Exam results must be dated within two years of application submission. Jefferson names both PTE Academic and the Express exam at 53. The page does not mention PTE Academic Online, PTE Core or a Pearson sending code.
On the same page, IELTS is 6.5 with no sub-score below 6, and TOEFL iBT is 80 with no sub-score below 20 (or 4.0 with no sub-score below 4 for tests from 21 January 2026). PTE 53 has no sub-score rule attached.

If you fall short
Instead of a test score, Jefferson accepts completion of ELS 112 or English Composition 1 and 2 at a US college or university with a grade of C or better. Students from countries where English is the official language, or with three or more years of US high school and a US diploma, can qualify for a waiver.
