What Duolingo score do you need for Tohoku University?

Gateway College admits international students in Term II (Fall enrollment) through document screening, then an online written exam and interview held entirely in English. Instead of a test score, applicants can submit a certificate of English as medium of instruction.

The I-GES guidebook applies its English requirement to non-native English speakers and says TOEFL iBT, IELTS or Duolingo must have been taken within two years of the application deadline. If a digital report cannot be sent, the original score report goes by registered mail or EMS to the Graduate School of Education.

For comparison, Gateway College lists IELTS 6.0 or above, and the I-GES guidebook asks for IELTS Academic 6.5 or higher.

Neither page describes a conditional offer or English pathway for applicants below these scores. Gateway College applicants on the Humanities and Social Sciences track are also expected to have Japanese at CEFR B1 or higher.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Tohoku programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
