What Duolingo score do you need for Yokohama National University?

Applicants whose native language is not English, or who have not completed a bachelor's or master's degree taught in English within the last five years, must submit TOEFL iBT, IELTS or Duolingo scores.

For Duolingo, you take the test online and ask Duolingo to share the results with Yokohama National University (GSISS, the Graduate School of International Social Sciences). The guideline says you can take the test at home with the equipment Duolingo recommends. Official scores must reach YNU by 24 September 2026 or 6 November 2026, depending on your eligibility profile.

For comparison, the same guideline sets IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator at 6.5.

The guideline does not describe a conditional offer or English pathway for applicants below the minimum. It sets out special remarks on waivers of the English requirement, so check them if your previous degree was taught in English.
