Touro English requirements by school
From the Graduate School of Technology's international students page and international FAQ, and the Graduate School of Education's admissions page.
| Programme | IELTS Academic | Other tests |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate School of Technology | 6 | TOEFL iBT 80, PTE Academic 58, Duolingo 105 (the FAQ lists 110) |
| Graduate School of Education | 6 overall | TOEFL iBT 80, TOEFL paper 550 |
Who does not need a test
The Graduate School of Technology says the requirement applies to applicants whose native language is not English or who did not attend secondary school or college in an English-speaking country. Students who completed undergraduate studies at English-speaking schools and can document that the course was in English may be exempt.
The FAQ adds that if your requirement is waived but you have taken one of these tests, you should send the results and take them to your F-1 visa interview.

How to check
The two Graduate School of Technology pages give different Duolingo figures (105 and 110), so confirm with admissions if you plan to use Duolingo. Other Touro schools set requirements on their own programme pages.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admission cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Touro programme page and in your admission letter, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Touro University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
