What IELTS score do you need for Trinity College Dublin?

For every proficiency test, the result must be issued within two years before the start of your course. TOEFL iBT Home Edition is accepted on the same score conditions as the standard TOEFL iBT.

On IELTS retakes, note 6 on Trinity's page reads "IELTS single subject retake is accept", cut off mid-word as published on 4 October 2026. It appears to say a One Skill Retake is accepted, but confirm with Trinity admissions before relying on one. IELTS Online is not mentioned: not stated by Trinity.

Duolingo requirements refer to the integrated scores, and you must share your result with "Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin" from the Duolingo website. Postgraduate applicants whose primary degree was taught wholly through English may request an exemption from the course director, with a formal letter from the awarding institution.

Applicants who do not meet their course band can apply for the CELLT Pre-Sessional Summer Programme. Trinity lists these entry scores for its Band A pathways:

The study visa is a separate check: the Irish Immigration Service sets a visa minimum of IELTS Academic 5.0 (PTE Academic 30) for courses other than second-level, foundation or English language courses, and says your college's own minimum may be different.
