UCD's minimum English scores (undergraduate and graduate)

Single sitting, no retakes, two-year limit
UCD assesses a single sitting only: you must reach the overall score and every component minimum in the same test. Under IELTS it states that retake scores are not accepted, so an IELTS One Skill Retake will not count.
Results must normally be issued within the last two years. For September 2026 entry, UCD says results must date from 1 February 2024 or later.
For 2026, UCD will accept the IELTS Indicator and TOEFL Home Edition, with both under review after that. IELTS Online is not named separately: not stated by UCD.
Some graduate courses set higher requirements, so check the entry requirements on your course page. A degree taken through English, or in an English-speaking country, may be accepted at the discretion of the relevant governance board.

UCD lists its own English language pathway programmes as accepted evidence. A UCD Pre-Sessional or Pre-Masters programme must be completed with an overall grade of C+ and at least C- in all components. These run through the UCD Centre for English and Global Languages. Entry scores for the pathways are not stated on the requirements page.
IELTS for the Irish study visa is a separate check
This guide covers UCD's admission requirement. The study visa is a separate check: the Irish Immigration Service sets a visa minimum of IELTS Academic 5.0 (PTE Academic 30) for courses other than second-level, foundation or English language courses, and says your college's own minimum may be different. Meeting the visa minimum does not get you an offer; UCD's score is the one to aim for. Country-level detail is in our IELTS for Ireland guide.
Requirements are set per intake and can change. Check the UCD English language page and your course page before you book a test. Read on 4 October 2026.
