TU Ilmenau English levels

When you need no certificate
No certificate is required if the language of instruction of your programme is English and English is also the official language and language of education in your home country. In that case, a confirmation of the language of instruction from your school or university is enough. TU Ilmenau links a uni-assist list of these countries from the same page.

Conditional admission with B2
With B2 you can be admitted on a language-based condition rather than directly, so aim for IELTS 7.0 if you want a clean offer. Some programmes, such as Communications and Signal Processing, set their own C1 requirement for all applicants.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your TU Ilmenau programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where TU Ilmenau publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
