TUS's English scores by entry route
Scores are from TUS Global's English language requirements page. Brackets show TUS's lowest accepted band. TUS publishes PTE and Duolingo as score bands, for example PTE 56 to 65 for master's, and does not say which point in the band is the cut-off. TOEFL iBT is given only on the 1 to 6 scale.

What TUS does not state
TUS's English page lists a 5.5 tier at CEFR B2 under the heading "NA" without naming which programmes it applies to; ask global@tus.ie before relying on it. TUS also accepts IGCSE English as a First Language at grade B and the SPM 1119 certificate for the year 1, advanced entry and higher diploma route.
A validity period for test results is not stated by TUS. A waiver for English-medium study, a position on IELTS One Skill Retake or IELTS Online, and TOEFL scores on the old 0 to 120 scale are not stated by TUS.
The Study at TUS FAQ summarises the same picture: 6.0 for most undergraduate courses, 6.5 for postgraduate and 7.0 for nursing, with Duolingo, TOEFL and PTE accepted as equivalents.

Take a free scored IELTS mock →IELTS for the Irish study visa is a separate check
This guide covers TUS's admission requirement. The study visa is a separate check: the Irish Immigration Service sets a visa minimum of IELTS Academic 5.0 (PTE Academic 30) for courses other than second-level, foundation or English language courses, and says your college's own minimum may be different. Meeting the visa minimum does not get you an offer; TUS's score is the one to aim for. Country-level detail is in our IELTS for Ireland guide.
Requirements are set per intake and can change. Check the TUS English language page and your course page before you book a test. Read on 8 October 2026.
